Amazon for Tablets brings the full Amazon shopping experience to your tablet.
Many apps can work just as well on a smartphone as they do a tablet. Shopping apps are often a case where that isn’t true. The one-at-a-time nature of shopping apps for smaller screen doesn’t translate well to tablets. On the other hand, the near-web-like style preferred on tablets is too cluttered on phones. The Amazon developers recognize this problem and choose to create two apps.
This app is designed for tablets with at least 7-inch screens and up. It resembles the main webpage in a lot of ways, but the standard web menus can suffer from small text size. Here, those menus are eliminated, and a side menu with large text can be expanded and collapsed as needed. This menu features all of the categories and subcategories you’re used to and has a built-in search tool.
The app also gives you full access to your account. In addition to placing and cancelling orders, you can add, edit and remove payment information. You can also get tracking information, contact third-party sellers and speak directly with Amazon via live chat.
Amazon for Tablets requires Android OS 4.0.3 or greater. It also supports screens ranging from 7 inches to 10 inches and resolutions ranging from 600 by 1024 to 1650 by 2560. Larger screens as well as those screens with higher resolutions are still supported but the app doesn’t take full advantage of them This isn’t a big issue, but an update for the newest devices on the market would be nice.
